Statement on Estelle Richman being Named Special Advisor to the Managing Director on Gun Violence Intervention

PHILADELPHIA (March 2, 2023) – As the City of Philadelphia continues to expand and enhance its violence reduction strategy, Mayor Jim Kenney has announced the appointment of Estelle Richman as Special Advisor to the Managing Director on Gun Violence Intervention.

“Drawing on her years of public leadership in service to the city and the state, Estelle will work closely with the dedicated teams of City staff and community leaders who are working at this every day,” Kenney stated during his March 2, 2023 budget address to City Council. “Together we will continue to expand ongoing efforts to intervene with individuals at the very highest risk of being involved in gun violence, and strengthen coordination to keep these individuals alive.”

Richman, who will continue to serve as executive director of the Civic Coalition to Save Lives, will report to Managing Director Tumar Alexander and serve as the City’s single point of coordination and accountability for the gun violence intervention programs focused on those individuals at the very highest risk of killing or being killed.

“I am excited for this opportunity to work in even closer collaboration with the City to build the coordinated infrastructure to connect, share and expand the capacity,” Richman said.

The Civic Coalition to Save Lives supports Richman’s new, dedicated role, calling it “the next step in our partnership with the City to continue to enhance and expand our intervention work.”
